Play with a Treasure Basket provides the sensory-rich feedback necessary for developing the seeds of ‘language for thinking and communication’(EYFS). When extended through the Stepping Out Activity Cards or the latest addition to the range, the Communication and Literacy Activity Cards (which support Letters and Sounds), children are encouraged to develop mark-making, pencil control, letter sounds, alliteration and rhymes in a fun, age-appropriate and multi-sensory way. The Playscope Playmat offers the perfect listening tool, a prop for bringing stories and rhymes to life, or a magnet for the ‘book corner’; the Sensory Bags are perfect for sensory stimulation and great for encouraging language; and our range of Top Up Sets containing unusual objects are perfect for developing mark-making, pencil control and vocabulary.

 

The Sensory Play Research project revealed children’s varied verbal responses to a Treasure Basket with some (normally quiet) children babbling or talking purposefully when encountering the unusual objects, while others (normally vocal) played in silence.
